Jasiri Australia was created out of necessity. For women experiencing gender and racial barriers and for survivors of violence.
The Jasiri Australia story starts with Caitlin Figueiredo, who survived childhood violence. Wanting to help other Australian children and young women in similar situations, she created Jasiri Australia to help reform a broken system. She established the world’s first pay-it-forward self-defence and leadership social enterprise, offering a range of pathways for survivors and women to unlock their fearless potential.
We're building a new generation, together.
We're building a new generation, together. With a shared vision and increased opportunities.
Jasiri is on a mission to equip people with the skills to be their own agents of change and to transform culture and end violence fearlessly. Specialising teaching practical, emotional and resilient skills for women, we equip our students with the tools to become leaders and to avoid or stop assaults. Our network of services includes short and long term empowerment self defence training and policy facilitation, advocacy, leadership programs, public events and an online platform which allows young women to share their voices and experiences.
Why we do what we do
In Australia, on average one woman is murdered each week, 60 thousand children live in emergency accommodation because of domestic violence or homelessness and only 50% of women want to become leaders. It's a $21.7 billion dollar problem.
Assisting women and children to thrive
Utilising our first pay it forward model, when students pay for an introduction self defence class, we pay a portion of their proceeds forward to train survivors of violence for free. With the communities support, we're helping some of the most vulnerable Australians take back their lives from fear. We also fund life-changing programs for children with a portion of our proceeds donated to the Alannah & Madeline Foundation to end violence and bullying against children.
We believe that all people regardless of age, religion, race and gender should live a life free from violence and fear. One day we hope the 45 thousand children a year who are abused isn’t the reality we have to live in and all people have the chance to unlock their full potential. We will continue to work tirelessly to make this vision a reality. Through booking our classes and speakers, not only are you supporting women and children to live a life free from violence but also supporting the fearless movement of change.
