“There are a ton of problems in Australia, but in my mind there is one problem in particular that leads to other problems. It is one of the greatest causes of poverty, inequality, violence, and generational impact - and that is childhood violence.” - Jasiri founder, Caitlin Figueiredo
Kids in Australia are not getting the help that they need, Jasiri was created to fix this issue. As a child, Jasiri founder Caitlin Figueiredo was abused in secret by an extended family member because she was born a girl. Wanting to help other Australian children and families in similar situations, she created Jasiri with a group of friends in Canberra. Together they established the world’s first pay-it-forward self-defence organisation, offering a range of pathways to help victims of violence.
In Australia, on average one woman is murdered each week, 60 thousand children live in emergency accommodation because of domestic violence or homelessness and only 50% of women want to become leaders. It's a $13.6 billion dollar problem.
With Jasiri's holistic approach, we're on a mission to help some of the most vulnerable Australians take back their lives from fear. Jasiri means fearless in Swahili, and that is what we are trying to help these women become. Through our self-defence classes, we will give women and youth the skills they need to protect themselves from abuse. 100% of our profits from our inspirational eco-luxe jewellery and stationary support life-changing programs through the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.
We believe that all people regardless of age, religion, race and gender have the right to and should live a life free from violence and fear. One day we hope the statistic of 45 thousand children who are abused every year will cease to be the reality we have to live in and all people have the chance to unlock their full potential.
We will continue to work tirelessly to make this vision a reality. Through buying our products, you are not only supporting women and children to live a life free from violence but also supporting the movement of change. And now we call on you, to support us and help us achieve this goal to give everyone a life free from violence and inequality.
